Easter Islands - Torres Del Paine Tour

ITINERARY
Day 1: Santiago - Rapa Nui Tour

Flight to Rapa Nui, otherwise known as the Easter Islands. Reception and transfer to your hotel. For example Hotel Taha Tai.

Day 2: Rapa Nui Tour (B)

After breakfast, a full day's tour visiting Vaihu, where eight toppled Moai lie, Akahanga, Rano Raraku volcano, where the statues are half buried, Ahu Tongariki, where the largest Ahu (or platform) is located and Ahu Nau Nau (where the Moai are in particularly good condition).

Day 3: Rapa Nui Tour (B)

Half day's excursion to Rano Kau volcano, site of ancient petroglyphs and the ceremonial temple of Iorongo, Vinapu (site of meticulous stonework found nowhere else on the islands) along with the Anakai Tangata caves. Free afternoon.

Day 4. Rapa Nui Horse riding tour (B)

Start a 4 hour horse-riding tour by following the coast road along the Bahia de la Perousse onwards to the eastern part of the island where we will find the largest Moai ever transported. It is named Ahu Te Pito Te Kura (navel of light) and over 9.8 m/ 32 ft in length. Ahu means sacred place and describes the rectangular stone platform on which the Moai statues were erected. Next, we ride towards Poike Peninsula where once a mystical war took place among the so called "long-Ears", who carved the Moai, and the newcomers known as "Short Ears", who were kept in an inferior class and helped in manual labour. Although there are many contradictory versions of the legend it is said that the Short Ears rebelled and slaughtered all the Long Ears. The tour continues southwards to visit Ahu Tongariki, recently restored after a tidal wave washed the sta

tues dozens of metres away from their original setting in 1960. Continue horse-riding to Rano Raraku. Return to your hotel.

Day 5: Rapa Nui Tour - Santiago (B)

Half day's excursion to Ahu Akivi, the famous seven Moais, believed to be one of the last built around 1460 and measuring 14 feet in height and weighing 12 metric tons. The caves of Ana Tepahu and Puna Pau, a quarry, from where the red hats that are worn by some of the Moai were made is also visited today. Transfer to the airport for the return flight back to Santiago and transfer to your hotel.

Day 6. Santiago - Punta Arenas - Puerto Natales (B)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to Punta Arenas, located on the very tip of the continent. We continue our trip to Puerto Natales and transfer to your hotel.

Day 7.Balmaceda - Serrano Glacier (B &L)

After breakfast, full day excursion by boat to the beautiful Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers. Boxed lunch is included. Return to Puerto Natales and transfer to your hotel.

Day 8. Torres del Paine (B)

After breakfast, we travel into the Torres del Paine National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1978). This park is Chile's showpiece: a world biosphere reserve with all the diverse scenery of Alaska in only 180,000ha (444,600ac). The Torres Del Paine are spectacular granite pillars which soar almost vertically for more than 2000m (6560ft) above the Patagonian steppe. A visit to the Milodon cave; where in 1896 the scientific world was fascinated by the discovery of skin, bones and other parts of an extinct animal, the Milodon (Mylodon Darwini). The tour continues with visits to Lake Sarmiento, Nordennskjold, Pehoe, and Lago Grey; site of the Grey Glacier. Overnight in the National Park at a Lodge.

Day 9. Torres del Paine Horse riding tour (B)

Enjoy a half day horse back riding tour in the National Park.

Day 10. Torres del Paine - Puerto Natales- Punta Arenas - Santiago

After breakfast, transfer to Punta Arenas for your return flight to Santiago.
