Santiago - Puerto Varas - Bariloche - Torres del Paine

ITINERARY
Day 1: Santiago

Arrival in Santiago, reception and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2: Santiago

City tour of Santiago including a visit to the Government Palace, the Main Square, the Cathedral and a visit to the museum of precolumbian art. An excursion to the Cerro San Cristobal viewpoint for a beautiful panoramic view of the city. Santiago de Chile was founded in 1541 and is in a beautiful setting with only 62 miles separating the Pacific coast from ski resorts in the high Andes. You will find 17th Century architecture and lively markets set against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains.

Day 3: Santiago - Puerto Montt - Puerto Varas

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to Puerto Montt.
Transfer from the airport in Puerto Montt to your hotel in Puerto Varas, on the shore of Lake Llanquihue. From here you can enjoy the spectacular views across the lake of the Osorno Volcano. Afternoon visit of the beautiful town of Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt, the capital of the Lake District lying on the shore of the Pacific Ocean.

Day 4: Puerto Varas - Petrohue - Lago Todos Los Santos - Bariloche

After breakfast, a visit to the Vincente Perez Rosales National Park to see the native forests and the Petrohue Falls along with the crystalline waters of the Petrohue River. After you will continue on to the All Saints Lake where the cruise across the lake to Peulla begins. With fabulous views of Osorno Volcano, Puntiagudo and Tronador hills you will arrive at Peulla, a beautiful nature reserve in time for lunch. Continue on to Puerto Blast with a visit to Cantaros Falls before arriving to Bariloche Argentina by bus. Transfer to your hotel, Hotel Amancay.

Day 5: Bariloche

Free day of leisure to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Bariloche.

Day 6: Bariloche - Lago Todos Los Santos - Petrohue - Puerto Varas

After breakfast, return by catamaran back to Chile and Puerto Montt. Transfer to your hotel in Puerto Varas.

Day 7: Puerto Varas - Chiloe

After breakfast, a visit to the beautiful and mystical island of Chiloe, the second largest island off South America. Long inhabited by the Mapuche Indians, the island is steeped in mythology and is populated by strange figures including the troll-like Trauco. Seafood lunch and some free time before returning to Puerto Varas.

Day 8 (Monday): Puerto Varas - Frutillar - Puerto Montt

After breakfast, a visit to the picturesque lakeshore village of Frutillar, home to an old German colony. Lunch and return to Puerto Montt in time for the boarding of the ship, the longest scheduled ferry journey in the world (with all meals). The ship leaves Puerto Montt at 4PM navigating the interior channels formed as a result of twelve thousand year old glacial movements. Passing along the coastline of Chiloe Island we will eventually cross the Reloncavi Inlet and continue on towards the Gulf of Ancud. Farther south, we will enter Moraleda and continue along the Taitao Peninsula.

Day 9 (Tuesday): Gulf of Penas

The ship will eventually sail out to the Pacific Ocean where it will continue bordering the Taitao Peninsula and then pass through the Gulf of Penas, where the sea conditions can become a little rough.

Day 10 (Wednesday): Puerto Eden

The ship will sail through Bernardo O'Higgins National Park and continue through the Messier Channel. We will follow the English Passage to arrive to Puerto Eden on Wellington Island. The ship will also cross the Kirke or Santa Maria Channel and their respective Kirke and White Passages.

Day 11 (Thursday): Puerto Natales

At the final stretch we will enter the flatter, lower Patagonia, navigating the Gulf of Almirante Montt to arrive at Seno de Ultima Esperanza (Last Hope Sound) and Puerto Natales. Transfer to your hotel.

Day 12: Puerto Natales - Torres del Paine

After breakfast, excursion to Torres del Paine National Park and the Milodon cave. The visit includes tours to Lake Sarmiento, Nordennskjold, Pehoe, and Lago Grey. Return to Puerto Natales and your hotel.

Day 13: Balmaceda Glacier - Serrano Glacier - Punta Arenas

After breakfast, full day excursion by boat to the beautiful Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers. After lunch, return to Puerto Natales for the return bus to Punta Arenas. Transfer to your hotel.

Day 14: Punta Arenas

After breakfast, transfer to Punta Arenas airport for your return flight. (Or optional tours around Punta Arenas such as the penguin sanctuary at Otway Sound - price not included).
